Refereees

ALL VOLUNTEERS (NEW OR RETURNING) NEED TO COMPLETE THE FOLLOWING EVERY YEAR!

You will need to complete the “Safe Haven”, “CDC Concussion Course”, and the “laws of the game” course. All of these can be found in your AYSOU account. You can either click on the AYSOU tab from our www.atascaderosoccer.org page, or click the following link: www.aysou.org Sign in with the same Login and Password that you created to become a volunteer. Once you login, find the “my courses” tab. You will see a list of the courses you need to watch online, each one takes about 15 to 20 minutes.

I know when I was a new referee, it all seemed very daunting. But we are here to offer the training needed and the help whenever you need it.

A few things need to be taken care of before you can be an “official referee”.

As a new referee you have to take the “Regional Referee Training Course”. Click the “ecommerce” tab and then the “referee training” category. There is a $7.00 fee for this course, but WE WILL COVER THE COST for you. You will need to email me that you are ready to take the course and I will send you a voucher ID number for the $7.00 fee.

We don’t believe as a volunteer, you should be responsible for this expense.

Now the fun part. For new referees there is one more training class, but for this we want to meet you...and FEED you! You will need to attend 1 of the 3 classes that we are offer.

All Classes will be held at Atascadero Bible Church Gym: If you are a little late, please be there as soon as possible.

For new 10U and above division referees: Thursday August 16th 5:00‐9:00pm Thursday August 30th 5:00‐9:00pm

For new 8U division referees: Thursday September 6th 5:00‐9:00pm

RETURNING REFEREE MEETING AT ROUND TABLE PIZZA WEDNESDAY AUGUST 29TH AT 6:00PM

Post-Season Referee Info

Area 10Q Post Season Referee Plan:

All referees who participate in Area Playoffs, Section Playoffs, and All Stars must:

  1. Be currently registered as a volunteer with AYSO

  2. Have a referee certification of Regional or higher and have a cert date prior to the Fall Season Roster Freeze

  3. Have taken Safe Haven in the last 12 months and Concussion Awareness in the last 12 months

  4. Have approval from their RRA

The RRA will verify and approve the volunteer’s qualifications based on training and game experience for the age division they are to officiate. The RRA will also indicate the highest level for assignment as referee and assistant referee to facilitate game scheduling. Assignments will be made based on qualifications giving priority to 14U.

Youth referees who are also players in the tournament are not allowed to officiate. Youth referees may only officiate in an age division that is two divisions below their own (eg a 14U player can officiate in 10U only). Youth may not officiate in 14U unless they are an Intermediate Referee or higher.

The referee requirements for each tournament will be followed and enforced. Failure to do so can result in the removal of the team(s) associated with the referees who do not meet the requirements.

Changes for MY2018

Area 10Q All Star teams will qualify for Post Season play based on referee representation. For the MY2018 season, it is required that all referees officiate at least ten games during the Fall Core season in their home Region. At least one of the referees representing a 14U team be certified as an Intermediate Referee or higher and be present at all tournaments. It is recommended that at least one of the referees representing a 12U team be certified as an Intermediate Referee or higher. Each National, Advanced, and Intermediate Referee can represent one team only. It is required that all three referees representing a 10U team be certified as Regional or higher. A Post Season referee team will consist of three referees at a minimum. One of the three must be competent as the referee for every match assigned (three Assistant Referees do not make a complete team). If the head coach is one of the team referees, the team must have two referees and two assistant referees. For Area and Section Playoffs head coaches may not officiate.

Starting with the MY2020 season, the standards will be raised to require at least one Advanced Referee for 14U and at least one Intermediate Referee required for 12U. 10U will not change.
